Description
This volume of the book series in Hungarian and English, presenting the most important buildings of the main square, presents the history of the former Synagogue, the exterior and interior of the building, and the activities taking place there today in a readable manner with many pictures. The Orientalizing (Moresque) romantic style building was built between 1864-1868, while the interior decoration and furnishings were completed in 1871. In 1966, the city bought the church of the Jews of Kecskemét, which became derelict during the Second World War, and then, according to the plans of the architect József Kerényi, between 1969 and 1974, it was transformed and renovated in accordance with the new function. The concise, but precisely informative passages of text give a glimpse into the building's past and present. With the help of old photographs, postcards, and documents, the reader can get a comprehensive picture of the eventful history and outstanding cultural value of the Synagogue. You can browse the pictures of former holidays and everyday life.
